By AmandaJaneMay 9, 2008 - 10:12pmDo we really need to duplicate Oprah's programming?
While I congratulate Richard on his 9/11 Truth series - a vital topic that is getting little or no mainstream attention, I'm baffled why he'd consider duplicating Oprah's programming here. Is this an attempt to get more mainstream listenership? The problem is that, if I want to watch Oprah, I can watch her show - I don't need to hear her program re-run here on Air America.
For every new listener you may gain this way, you ensure that some old listeners like me will be TUNING OUT. I listen to Air America for content I can't get elsewhere.
If Tolle is meaningful to you, has helped you - then great! But your extravagent on-air lauding of him and his writing approaches an almost nauseous level. It sort of reminds me of when all the rock stars and celebrities in the psychedelic era fell in love with the Maharishi.
How about this: Get Tolle on the air and ask him some pertinent questions. I'd be very curious as to his take on 9/11 truth, for example. I'd also be very interested in his take on making money at promoting spirituality. I contend that it's fair to make a living in a way that helps people, but there are spiritual leaders who take oaths of poverty. As we see televangelists like Pat Robertson living a lifestyle most of his followers can only dream of - as we note Scientology charging fees for their inner secrets and sucking-up to celebrities, what makes Tolle any different?
Sincerely,
Gary Roscoe Johnson

By urania235May 10, 2008 - 1:33pmWhy I am doing "The Power of Now" Webinar
Dear Gary,
I appreciate your comments and want to clear up a few things:
1. This 10 week program is NOT a repeat of the Oprah "webinar." That 10 week course was on Tolle's second book, "A New Earth." This is on his original work, considered a classic, "The Power of Now." Oprah's course attracted 5 million people, from around the world. If we could attract even 5% of that, our little radio network would greatly benefit.
2. Of course I would like for Air America to have new listeners. If we are ever to cut into the massive brainwashing of Limbaugh, Hannity, Levin, O'Reilly, Savage, etc., we must begin to preach to other than the converted.
3. Eckhart Tolle is an extraordinary teacher. Read about his story. He is not into ego or money. He walks his talk more than any teacher I know, except for The Dalai Lama.
4. I believe that Progressive Radio is about creating a better, more evolved society. Part of how we can do that is to elect Democrats to the White House and Congress. Part of that is to put pressure on our elected representatives to do the right thing. But an even more fundamental part of that is to help raise the level of consciousness within our society - towards peaceful thinking, away from greed and a lust for power and an out of control ego. This is what Tolle's work is all about. Nothing new really, but rarely practiced. His teaching, like our radio network, is about creating "A New Earth".
5. Tune in for a bit on Monday and then decide. I'd hate to lose you as a listener but I have to be true to what I feel is important.
6. Check out this poem:
"If there is to be Peace in the world
There must be Peace in the nations
If there is to be Peace in the nations
There must be Peace in the cities
If there is to be Peace in the cities
There must be Peace between neighbors
If there is to be Peace between neighbors
There must be Peace in the home
If there is to be Peace in the home
There must be Peace in the Heart"
