CLINTON – BILL, THAT IS
Bill Clinton’s Chief of Staff, John Podesta, will explain how America’s progressives can once again save our economy, climate and country – just like Bill did. His book, with a subtitle quite similar to this paragraph, is The Power of Progress.
CAMPAIGN
Is McCain campaigning like Hillary Clinton? Yup! Is it working? Yup! So … to all those people who said she should stay in even when it was clear she wasn't going to win, that a long primary would only strengthen them both, what now? Seems to me the extended battle just picked out McCain's strategy for him.
Obama’s response is to stick to the effective McCain = Bush refrain. Will his plan keep working? And what comes next. We’ll also hear about the latest fundraising numbers and look at how the campaigns are spending their millions and millions of hard earned dollars.
OTHER THINGS YOU MIGHT WANT TO KNOW
Demonstrating the endemic level of racism and homophobia in Lousiana, governor Bobby Jindall says he won't renew the ban on contracting with organizations that discriminate because it is too limiting. Seriously? Where are the values here!?!?
Gasp. The sport of table tennis faces the crisis of a generation. Doping? No! A ceiling fan? Uh, uh. Dorky clothes! And the International Table Tennis Federation is ready to act – bogarting the strategy from women's badminton and volleyball, look for those agile paddlers to spruce up the rec room look with sexy duds in years to come. Sheesh.
FOLLOW UPS
Since we had so much fun yesterday with the McCain campaign’s diss of Dungeons and Dragons fans, one more note on that story. Wired Magazine decided to ask readers to submit what kind of D&D character McCain would be. Some suggestions: Chaotic Evil Human Cleric (8th Level), 89th Level Orge with blazing sword of non-remembrance, smallvillus baracus brakus thornbuckle. They go on. Ha!
We covered the call for a lower drinking age on Tuesday. Now the college Presidents who suggested the drinking age be lowered to 18 are getting attacked from all sides. MADD moms, transportation officials, government leaders, and health officials say they're flat out wrong, a lower drinking age would not reduce 18-21 year old drinking.
Plus, a WTC video game, corrupt republicans and their trials, hurricane Fay, the smell of skin cancer, a court case over anti-war T-Shirts that will get you thinking and much, much more …

Obama needs to hit back
Excellent piece by James Carville on CNN about how Obama should be pointing out all the studies that show Democratic Presidents have historically provided for better economies and better security than Republicans.
Everyone says they hate negative campaigning...but than they let it work on them so go figure? Are people dumb or distracted or a little of both?

" take the person's own words and use them against him "
what's the source .. " john McCain's own mouth or ' the press said " ?
well said ron ...
It is very powerful and effective method and it's nice to see Obama employing it.
In answer to the previous post .. i think the negative campaigning is like a sugar rush ..
It can an immediate impact ... as seen in the latest polls ...
.. but I believe the results won't last and that eventually there will be the 'sugar crash "
as obama speaks with more passion and punch against these negative ads..
When Mccain was swift boated in the 2000 South Carolina primary .. there was not enough time for McCain to respond .
. Johnny should have learned .. he is way too early with his negative Bam attacks

I'm listening to yesterday's show today and heard a caller state that Obama may potentially not win the election due citizens not being invested in the war due to the lack of a draft. It's worse than that. Back in the early 70's, with the most unpopular war in history occurring along with riots in the street, Nixon won all the states but 10 with the repeated comment of "Peace with Honor". At the time citizens were invested and the warmongers still won.

By pugsey05August 22, 2008 - 7:26amhitting back with ad number 7
" how is it that you can say the fundamentals are strong ...
... when all the leading indicators ...housing and employment are clearly weak? "
This was an excellent job by team Obama to sieze on the opportunity to paint McCain as out of touch with the economy.. which he basically is .. it just needs to be exposed a little more. .
Creating this ad in less than 24 hours and combining both the " how many houses " and the " the economy is fundamentally sound " was very effective, along with stronger and more passionate statements by Obama on the stump yesterday..
A future ad could possibly use alternating statements delivered directly from the mouths of both Bush and McCain about our " fundamentally strong " ecomony
They are eerily similiar .. both must have been wearing the same rose colored glasses.
