Jon Stewart dedicated more than 11 minutes of Thursday night's show on what he calls the "hyperbolic" war between the White House and Fox News.
Though he certainly gave the White House a few nudges for saying they are "speaking truth to power" by fighting with Fox, Stewart spends the majority of the segment putting together one of the best and biggest takedowns of the network we have ever seen. The meatiest part involves For News Senior Vice President Michael Clemente's claim that Fox's designated "news" hours are from 9AM to 4PM and 6-8PM.
Stewart explains:
For the audience here, let me help you out--because it does get confusing. The three hours you spend in the morning with "Fox & Friends": not news. Your 4 o'clock to 5 o'clock post-tea and crumpets Neil Cavudo break: not news. The 5 o'clock to 6 o'clock emotional whirlwind and national group therapy session that is Glenn Beck: not even close to news.
O'Reilly, Hannity, van Susteren-en-en-en: not news. This is according to Fox News. Those people--the ones featured in promos about how fair and balanced Fox News is--are not news. These people--otherwise known as the only people you ever think of when you think of Fox News--are not news. They are Fox 'opinutainment.'
That's our favorite part. Please watch and tell us what yours is:

My in-laws LOOOVE Fox. Any time I criticize them, my sister-in-law says, "Fair and balanced!" Okay, so they're not a brain trust, but I'm shocked that normally intelligent people can be hoodwinked by this network so easily. Where is the push to pass the Fairness Doctrine?? That would eliminate all the Faux News opinion shows AND Rush all in one fell swoop. They're scared to death of the idea of having to fairly debate ANYTHING with Democrats, which is why there are always at least two of them for every Democrat invited onto their shows, so they can gang up on them, talk over them, and treat them like crap and get away with it. My in-laws say they find Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow as extreme and horrible as I find Hannity and O'Reilly, but I am always quick to point out that at least Keith and Rachel will invite republicans onto their show, and actually DEBATE them, and never just make crap up, like H & O.
heres an essay test for you Anais...name 3 technology systems invented in the las ten years by europeans....hmmmmm hard huh ? that pc your on.??..americans... the telephone system ... the software .???.. your mobile device ??? electricity ?? truth is if it wasnt for america you would be sitting in the dark ,writing with a feathere dipped in ink (most likely in german) listening to old hitler records on your wind up vicktrola
@Anais,
FYI Anais, Europeans aren't all that smart of educated either. Look at the popularity of people like LePen, or the way the French treat their Algerian population (as barely human with no hope of citizenship). Were all those rioters who set France on fire last year geniuses?
No, Europeans just think they're smarter and more enlightened. If it wasn't for us "ignorant Americans" you'd all be speaking German right now.
By the way, most of Americans are very very stupid and uneducated, and this is why FOX news appeals so much. It appeals to emotions rather than reason, and uses false logic and scare tactics. Against an uneducated public as we can see, this works wonders. It would be good if the liberals could get a clue and start their own false news show from the left wing side to appeal to that same stupidity level and win them back. Then later, fix the education system so that the nation will no longer tolerate this level of stupidity. I think you do not see these kinds of shows in Europe because more of the population is well educated and capable of reasoning and logic in comparison to the USA - here they still have essay tests as a main way of doing exams in schools for example - forcing people to think and reason in order to express an opinion, rather than relying solely on multiple choice dumbed-down exams that are easy for those doing the grading but which do nothing for the student's mental capacity. Perhaps this was by design, as we can see a dumbed down public is rather easy to control with propaganda.
My favorite part is where he shows how the FOX opinion guys become news for the FOX 'news' guys. In a clear way, that people who like FOX seem to ignore ... they create their own drama and stories entirely internally when it comes to raking mud to try to find something to scare whitey about when it comes to Obama.
Well, there are far more stupid people in the world than geniuses. So no surprise that Fox News would be so popular. It's news for people who don't really care what the truth is. John Stewart... Genius.
Like it or not Fox is VERY popular, and the ratings prove it. They destroy the other networks in terms of viewership. They are a vehicle to success though--if you can get yourself talked about by the likes of Sean/Glen/Bill et al then you're getting recognized, and on your way to prominance.
I am getting sick and tired about this nonsense of "Fox getting higher rating". Of course it should be, since all the simpe minded people and lazzy truth finder are conservatives. All conservatives (29-35%) watch only Faux News. The real netwroks including MSNBC have to share the 65 to 71% remaining, excluding the news challenging americans (about 20%). Faux News is not popular at all, it is just the refuge for all non thinking people of America aka conservatives.
This video demonstrates precisely what Al Franken wrote about them in his book "Lies(and the Lying Liars that tell them) A fair and balanced report." Only back then Fox News laundered it's opinions as news through the Weekly Standard. William Kristol would write an opinion in the New York Times and then Fox News would mention the newspaper but not necessarily that it was an opinion. I'm sure they still do it today. It's all they have to be persuasive instead of the truth.
Louis Messina,
I'd like to know precisely what Jon said that you feel is rude or crude. Jon is well respected on both sides of the aisle for being pointed, yet polite. Perhaps you feel offended by Jon shining a light on the deceptiveness and hypocrisy of Fox News.
Dwight. Research on the underlying personalities that opt for a particular political wing show us that people who elect politically conservative leaders also have a strong tendency to project what they fear are their own imperfections and faults onto those who they see as their enemy. Given that further studies also reveal that: "It appears that conservatism has pathological dimensions manifested in violence and distorted psycho-sexual development" (Boshier, 1983, p. 159)", and that "this is supported by a study conducted by Walker, Rowe, and Quincey (1993) in which there was a direct correlation between authoritarianism and sexually aggressive behavior.", including "an investigation done by Muehlenhard (1988) revealed that rape justification and aggression toward subordinate individuals was much higher in traditional (conservative personality) than non-traditional personalities", it would seem that your assessment of Stewart is strong confirmation of your own, and hence of the conservatives ability to project their own fears onto others. Or... to put it another way, "Methinks they doth protest too much" there chappy! LOLOL ;-)
I think Jon Stewart made his point beautifully. He showed many Fox comments regarding the kids singing some song commemorating Black History, and mentioning Obama. I'd like to see the lyrics. Anyway after all the faux indignation, the news segment reports a story titled something like "outrage over children indoctrination, blah blah blah" They do not, however, tell who exactly is outraged.
This is pretty blatant manipulation of a story.
Jon Stewart is blind to the fact that Axelrod and friends are programming us to be forever dependent on the all knowing and powerful "State". The more avenues of news and opinion shows we
have, hopefully the better informed our are citizens. As it stands now we have a communications media
that does not ask tough questions.
Forget about politics Mr. Stewart-try to make us laugh without being rude,or crude!
Jon Stewart is such a brilliant man. He's a master at what he does - uncovering the truth w/humor as sharp as can be, but he's never pointlessly mean-spirited. He goes after the big guns of hatred, bigotry and stupidity. That's why he's so powerful. It's like everything he says is a contained explosive that detonates w/just the right amount of power. I love how he entertains and explains. The former is never sacrificed for the latter, but the latter is only *strengthened* by the fun of it all. That's the mark of a true virtuoso.
Hard to pick an overall favorite part, that was a fairly long piece; but I did like the end, as it reiterates how Stewart doesn't play favorites, calling BS when he sees it.
Responding to the "Truth To Power" comment, he said of the White House, "It's your job to f*ck up power, and it's Fox's job to f*ck up truth."

The ministry of condemnation is alive and well in the life of John Stewart; but his vision and perception is blinded and off course. He does not represent truth, he represents his view; which is narcissistic, vitriolic, and borderline psychotic. It becomes apparent that much of his view has been altered chemically through illegal and mind bending drugs. No one can develop such a sick outlook unless they were either abused or abused themselves. The left-wing liberals or as I call them liberats, are either on drugs, or sexually perverted; hetero or homo sexually. My guess John is the prior of the two with a strong dose of illegal drugs.

We should be outraged about stories that surfaced on Faux Noise? Oh please...Faux has discredited themselves as any kind of verifiable News source, thus NOTHING on their programming is worthy of outrage except for their blatant Lies and Sedition.
Unless and until they upgrade their reporting, then maybe we can talk outrage...
.
I was referring to your first post. You should have copied and pasted that one for your benefit.
Charles,
Note that I am copying and reprinting my post so you and 'nobama' may read it again.
In doing so you will note that no where in the post is 'Faux Noise' mentioned.
Therefore, your comment about "why you only mention Fox" is non-sequitur.
Quite obviously, cognition obtained from literary sources (reading) is another lost art in Murikkka....

But of course they do Charles, it is all about programming and sensory overload.
The marketing professionals learned their craft well in the 1980s. They took the "show-on-the-road" regarding subliminal messaging (which no one ever talks about as if it doesn't exist) with the new technology that has given us "high-definition" color, sound and maybe our McDonalds burgers will be in high def smell?
With these overwhelming tools at the disposal of advertisers, is it really a mystery that all the cable "news" shows from all the channels spin a sign slowly in the corner, while they scroll text at the bottom of the screen while they rotate advertisements on the right side, while they have a well dressed, attractive talking head read directly to you loudly from a teleprompter.....all at the same time? Sensory overload and brainwashing is what they call that if used continuously on someone. Programming can come from any subconsious neural input....
But then again, they wouldn't want to get you programmed to buy their crap that you don't need would they?
After all, people are all out to "help" others now aren't they?

One again we basically agree, however, I don't see as much subliminal acts as you, I see it right out in the open; and I don't understand why you mention only FOX.
This is funny. All the libs like to try and discredit Fox. They do not realize that Fox gets the highest ratings. If the libs were smart(which obviously they are not) they would stop attacking Fox and appear on Fox's shows. This way they could spread their message to a much larger audience. By attacking Fox for having a different opinion and criticizing the current administration, makes them look petty and childish.
Note: As per Jon Stewarts video, Bush sent a letter to the network. He did not attack and try to discredit them out in the public.
But of course they do Charles, it is all about programming and sensory overload.

I agree with you, however, ALL the National News Networks are the same. They talk about the same illegitimate stories, as the others, giving their opinions.
Rush Limbaugh is a much better propagandist, and preacher of hate than Joseph Goebbels ever thought of being. This person is the most dangerous individual ever to have influence over people of the republic, yet he is embraced daily by conservative doctors, lawyers and accountants who are professionals and should know better. Being racist and ignorant enough to say things like, "Donovan McNabb is only thought of as a good quarterback because he's black", and then be given a pass and the microphone back tells you just how out of touch with reality our country has become......by the way, I watched McNabb while he was at Syracuse U, destroy my undergraduate football team and score 35 points all by himself - so my eyes see something that Limbaugh's lies and spin cannot hide.
Faux News has permanently damaged the U.S.A.'s collective psychology. They have done this by bastardizing the use of the term "Liberal", by dividing in order to conqueor, and creating a boogey-man out of non-issues to the point where only the extremely uninformed (but scarily often quite educated) people who tune in to Hush Deushbag and Faux Nude Channeling (many are closet perverts because of years of sexual repression and their inability to come out of the closet due to overwhelming and hyprocritical peer pressure) can return nightly for their Orwellian 5 minutes of hate nightly.
Bogus online polls, fake emails and fake callers to radio and tv shows, .......wow, give us another year of or two of this and just like the USSR, we will divide into 50 countries to avoid the draconian Rupert Murdoch funded media and mental control of the sheeple......
Lily, or Dude, as you might say. The fact is, you're right, I did answer my own question because it was rhetorical. I used those words on purpose so someone smart, like you, would comment on my use of words. You are So smart that you didn't get that they are in Fact the same, both Opinion based on Opinion. Similarly, your opinion of me is based on my Opinion of you as an Obama groupie.... As MSNBC is stating a lie that Obama is different than Bush, in bringing home the troops, as promised.
Here is a fact Dude Lily and others, Obama's new law, holding people for crimes they have yet to commit? Only Only Hitler has suggested and implemented that.
Stew can rant and rave all he wants, but Cavuto, Bret and Shepard Smith ARE news programs. And the main reason that MSM and the WH has their collectives panties tied into knots is because of the Van Jones and ACORN evisceration on the highest rated cable news program on the planet. And even though the most corrupt political machines, otherwise known as ACORN and SEIU continues to receive public funding and protection from the WH minions, their scrutiny is increasing and their time is short. ALL citizens should be appalled about these stories that surfaced on FNC, yet the absence of public uproar here, as well as MSM is telling and the silence is deafening.

LOLOL, ahhh now THAT is FUNNY!
Right, Jon isn't funny..he isn't talented...he has nothing to say. OH and what was that other thing you said about him? Ahh yes, that he is only riding Faux Noise's coattails. Now that's really funny...thanks I needed that.
Oh listen, you do know don't you, that THE DAILY SHOW was airing long BEFORE Faux Noise ever made it on air, don't you?
Granted Stewart didn't take over until the very beginning of 1999, but Kilborn (his predecessor) did quite a number on the GOP well before Jon ever came on as host.
But you wouldn't know that...would you? Nahh, I didn't think so.
Fox News= part of the gang that stole the presidency on behalf of George W. Bush. They should be in prison but yet they are still on the air....
Dude, Jon not only uses evidence to back up what he's saying but he can use that same evidence to also predict what will happen. The man is a genius with stocks. He reminds me of George Carlin in the sense, he's not really a comedian. He points out the truth in the most humorous way possible.
Oh and charles, you answered your own question: "FOX saying we NEED to WIN in the Middle East, and, MSNBC saying Obama will bring home the troops; where is the difference?"
One is an opinion one is a fact. Need vs. Will. One will happen, the other is what Fox News thinks. Kind of like I think you're an ass. It's an opinion you dont agree with.
Jon is a true idiot. No talent, nothing interesting to say. He is only on the air because he is riding the coat tails of Fox News. If he ever had an original idea his brain would go blue screen. I'm glad that the dozens of you that watch MSNBC or the other democrat propaganda stations have somewhere to go for your little circle jerk. Olberman is an Ass clown. Just foaming at the mouth because he's paid by Soros to run the country down.As for Maddow , someone tell him he needs a shave.
Fox with a right, Beck with a kick to the nuts, Rush with a boot in the ass and Obama stepping on his own dick.
Then Cheney wacks em. I love it.
If you Libs and the WH have all the true facts.
Get your ass on their show (they have an open invitation. Beck even has a red phone) and kick em back.
What? Don't have the facts on your side?
That could be an issue.
Roger Ailes admitted in a C-Span "Q&A" interview back on Dec. 19, 2004 that Fox commentators do not have to base their opinions and statements on facts or truth. QUOTE: "Bill and Sean do opinions. And I think that's quite clear. So my opinion of something may not be accurate, based on facts, it is my opinion, whereas a hard news show really has to have the facts." Watch this interview or read the transcript -- it is on C-Span's web site. He explained long ago that all the commentators on Fox (indicated in the quote by the word "my") have his permission to LIE. http://www.q-and-a.org/Transcript/?ProgramID=1001
Oh if you mean, for example, FOX saying we NEED to WIN in the Middle East, and, MSNBC saying Obama will bring home the troops; where is the difference? Neither channel has brought up the countless acts of Constitutional disregard that these Presidents show. Get real my friend
Charles:
There's at least one small difference: the opinions delivered by one of the networks are entirely reprehensible, guess which one it is.
Whats is truly unbelievable is you all think there is a difference between these "news" organizations. All of them are the same. They just develop an argument to which they give YOU the answers. You don't even have a choice. And to think one is more honest than the other is obnoxious. That is like saying Bush and Obama are different. How are they different, they are not, just their "brands" are. Do any of you actually go out and research what either station is saying?
Thank to people like stewart.. good commentary and be mixed with news and humour. yu all should search Utube for the news on the Jamie Leigh JOnes case , a bill just passed and the only NAY votes to protect government employee's were from 30 repubicans.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HX-pJwseaPY&feature=player_embedded
Fox news really does hurt my soul.
@ Katnip: "Glenn Beck isn't nuts. He's just setting up a "psycho" defense for his inevitable trial." You know, I think you may be on to something there.
@ islanderchief: "Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are the only two people on television that have any truthiness." So true... how sad is it when Comedy Central is the only channel known for its journalistic integrity?
Andy, do you get your information from Fox too? Do some research before you post.
I think Fox Noise is another production of Republinazi, Inc., a fully owned subsidiary of Halliburton and their CheneyCronies.
Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert are the only two people on television that have any truthiness. The piece on Fox was pitch perfect. Olbermann could bring along a lot of people to a progressive point of view if he dropped the vitriol. He has good points. Trust people to find their own indignation. Maddow does this a little better. To both I say, trust your audience, we get it.. Stewart and Colbert do, and as a result they are trusted in return.
In fairness to MSNBC's non-news programming, they advertise it as "The Place for Politics" and make no dubious claims of impartiality as Fox does.
Even so, Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow cram more documented, in-context facts into each of their respective hours than Fox does in a week. To their credit, they are quick to correct themselves on-air if they make an error. Fox never has to correct its facts because they make up their own.
Glenn Beck isn't nuts. He's just setting up a "psycho" defense for his inevitable trial. He deliberately portrays himself as a kook because it gets him free publicity. Similarly, O'Reilly and Hannity realize that dishonesty gets them more notice than truthfulness.
My favorite moment is when Jon describes the process by which a news story about an incident that took place seven months ago suddenly becomes big news, gets stirred into hyperbolic controversy by the opinion hosts, whose hyperbole becomes the "news" of the next set of news shows. It's getting so that Jon hardly has to do any work for his show, he just has to look up Fox News' latest blunder, put it up, point out the idiosyncrasies and idiocy and suddenly people are rolling in the aisle. It's like Fox is conspiring to lock Jon in for his next Emmy.
Stewart was spot on about FOX MSNBC and the White House but Stewartr crossed the writers picket line last year he loses all his progressive cred and the rest of the newsfotainment industry does when they dont call him on it
jesus christ, jon stewart is awesome!!!
if you haven't already; pick up a copy of the documentary "outfoxed". it will put an end to any consideration of legitamcy one might have of foxnews.
Why is it a big shock that those people listed are opinion shows? I haven't watched any, except a little of Glenn Beck which convinced me he needs to be medicated (or maybe less medicated)...but I bet none of those listed in the paragraph above look or present themselves like news programing.
If I were fox...I would use my highest rating shows as a 'face' too...but I wouldn't call them news programs.
