it's the money!

Dear David,
Great show, but please don't overlook the most important
fact in the Edwards story. It's the money!
The woman in question had no experience in video production and
was paid by the campaign so they could spend more time together.
Supporters pay that money!
She is being paid hush money now...by his campaign's finance manager!
For anyone who has ever contributed to a politician, this misuse of
donations to pay off the girl friend is the issue!!!
Thanks for a great show!

Sincerely

Edwards' comment to Nightline about 'end of political career'

Who cares about his 'Lord' forgiving him! Even his wife; that's HER business.

The only ones that matter in his political career are the VOTERS, The People! So the 'Lord' and wife are not our concern!

But, it is clear that this BENEFITS John McCain the MOST! As pointed out on the show the Edwards' situation -- having an affair with an ill wife at home -- is a direct parallel to McCain's past. If the Dems want to defend Edwards, then they will NOT be able to attack McCain's lack of personal integrity/morality in his family life.

So there IS a motive to smear Edwards.

So was it possible to FRAME Edwards with L'Affaire Videomadam?

Here's a REALLY different read on this, if you have a moment.

MKUltra has lots of technologies with which they've toyed.

Human Sex Pheromones are sure to be among them.

Edwards met the woman at hotel lounge? Is that right? (Were they even introduced?) Does that sound 'normal' for a busy, famous person to take such chances? Timed releases of pheromones could really make a man feel like he's finally found someone who understands/matches his sexual nature/chemistry.

Of course that chemistry could happen naturally too. But I think it likely that it can be synthesized as well and used to entrap the unwary.

[Gee, I always seem to be approaching just about ANYthing from this sort of perspective.]

OK, you've beaten this dead, horny horse enough already!

Can we move on? Is John Edwards and his wandering genitalia the only thing that happened this week? No!! Remember those other two guys running for the office of the presidency? Let's Move On!

I hope the podcast is available soon

i missed a lot of the show. I am interested in David's take on Edwards. I am disgusted. the financial aspect of it along with the hypocrisy of using his family to portray a fake image really bothers me. I am glad I chose to support Obama because John's voting record was so different then his progressive propaganda I think he is a fraud. I am glad he brought issues of poverty up in the campaign. That makes it worse that he gave money from his poverty campaign to his mistress.

All three hours?

Really?!? Hour three just started and apparently this is the only thing that there is to talk about this week.

That's enough! I'm off to listen to my old Isaac Hayes records. See you next week...

Shaft?

That would be quite the segue...no we're done on this topic for the remainder of the hour...thanks for listening!

Aaaah! Glad I checked back

Aaaah!
Glad I checked back before the show was over.

And I had NO idea that Isaac Hayes had died!

What a week...first Bernie Mac, now this sad news...hope the old superstition about "things happening in threes" doesn't hold true here...

Jon Edwards

You say, 'We can't expect politicians to be perfect', maybe not but we should expect them to be respectful and ethical. What John Edwards did, and Elizabeth too by going along with his candidacy, was show disrespect to the people of this country and the office of the president. One of the things that is corrupting this country is that we have lowered our standards. We need to expect our politicians to stand for higher morals. Infidelity, is breaking your marriage vows, which I think are sacred. If someone would violate those vows, whose to say, what would be next. I was so excited when John Edwars got into the race and now I feel so betryed. As far as I'm concerned, his political career is over. I had hoped he would be the next attorney general.

You expect better behavior

You expect better behavior from politicians than from the general public? I suppose you haven't known too many personally. I don't think people who seek power are, for the most part, the most ethical of people. You should look at the politician's voting record and what he does in his public life, not his private life.

I think Edwards should have revealed this from the beginning, but I don't think it would have made him a worse president. Your reaction is typical, but not necessarily rational. It's not the politicians who have lowered the standards. Everywhere you look, people are cheating on their spouses and lying. It's the culture. To expect that your representatives would be better than your neighbors is not rational. Most politicians are someone's neighbor.

My mother was raised in Oklahoma. She used to say to us: The whole world is crazy except thee and me. But I oft times wonder about thee." I was never sure what it meant until I was an adult.

We KNOW McCain!!!!

Uh oh, all of a sudden, there is a white elephant in the room. Republicans are running to pile on Edwards and are desperately attempting to bridge and link Obama to Edwards. Unfortunately, Obama is still on his first wife. Unlike "McCain". Oops, did I go there? That dark and damp place where the media seems to NOT want to go?

You know what this does????

This opens John McCain's rather "sordid" past to close inspection. Cheating on a wife who had been disfigured in a car accident (true, not a disease). The mistress was 24 and a multi millionaire. It's difficult to hold it against a man when the mistress is both "young" and "rich". It seems somehow less "dirty". The only minus is that they married only a month after the divorce from "Quasimodo" became final. I guess that makes everything OK and "moral" according to how Republicans see "morals".

The media seems to want to stay away from things that are both McCain and "sordid". That means they are staying away from all things "McCain". "Oh, we KNOW McCain, but we don't KNOW Obama", is the media mantra endlessly repeated. When you ask the average American what they know about McCain, they say, "He's a war hero." When asked why he's a hero, you are met with blank stares and shrugged shoulders.

Just to highlight the difference, I suspect every single voter in America knows Obama's middle name, his wife's name, his pastor's name, the name of the church he attended for twenty years and personal info about his family.

Most don't know McCain's middle name, his religious affiliation, that he owns 9 homes, that he blew up or crashed several planes, at one point was under investigation for the deaths of over 130 men. Certainly most voters don't know that he graduated 5th from the bottom out of 899 cadets out of the Navel Academy. Most don't even know Cindy McCain is his second wife, or that she is a drug addict who narrowly escaped prison by going to rich peoples free pass, "rehab".

If you compare Obama and McCain side by side, all of a sudden,. the question becomes, "Why is McCain the media darling"? Aren't the media also American citizens? Please give Obama and McCain equal airtime as well as equal scrutiny.

Now that you've beeaten the dead horse...

.. of John Edwards' infidelity for three consecutive hours, after having done the same for most of Friday evening, can you please promise never to waste our time with this BS again?

What a waste of radio.

Tim Kaine for Veep

Did you guys ever think that Tim Kaine may not work out as a Veep candidate for Obama because the bumper sticker will be " Vote for Obama Kaine" - also can be pronounced, "Vote for Oba - McCain" !! Not good!! Too many subliminal messages to vote for McCain!

V-Man

Edwards-The Reason WE Voted for Obama

First, I would NEVER HAVE VOTED FOR EDWARDS, HE STABBED US IN THE BACK WITH KERRY IN 04, so YES, HIS PRESIDENTIAL OPTIONS ARE COMPLETELY OVER.

Second, he stabbed everyone in the Democratic Party in the back by starting his campaign knowing he was hiding something.

Third, OK, we get it, he hid it to protect his children and thought if it came out, the fact that he lied about sex is such an old issue, it wouldn't matter.

What matters is the LIE!!!
The lying-- business as usual for DC politicians.
This is PRECISELY WHY WE VOTED FOR OBAMA.

We can use the Edwards thing to remind Americans why we voted for Obama.
We can use Edwards to remind America that JOHN MCCAIN lied about his affair with Cindy for years before he dumped his first wife for the rich girlfriend.
Does marrying her make it ok? I think not, especially since there are words on tape calling her a *itch, suggesting she enter a topless contest (obviously reminding us she is rich enough to buy good breasts, because at her age, what would they look like if they were natural? He is so completely insenstive on every issue).

We can use the Edwards thing to remind America why we need DC change.
Edwards was on TV saying things haven't changed.
Maybe for him, since he is obviously a seasoned liar, I mean politician.

For us, we Democrats (ex Democrat, Democrat at heart for me now, having left the party because of the refusal by the Democratic leadership to honor our constitution and demand impeachment, they have refused to demand impeachment for political reasons), his attitude is business as usual.

Edwards capacity to get elected is completely over. He can still be a valuable asset to promote the very important issues he carelessly threatened with his pointless and meaningless rhetoric (warts n'all, yeah, liar). His years of good work will not be discarded, his capacity to hold any elected office? Hopefully over.

This is an indication of exactly how the Democrats are attempting to calculate how much of the law and personal ethics they can ignore and still get elected.

I think he and Elizabeth lied to protect their children.
They knew they were not going to be nominated by the time the story really came out.
They denied it to protect their children.
Real Family Values, DC family values.
Lie until you get caught and then lie more and then admit it and say business as usual.
DC Values.
America needs change on both sides of the aisle.

TALK ABOUT "BUSINESS AS USUAL".

The DNC has been complicit with Pelosi's use of the constitution as a political tool, instead of a foundation for following our laws.
They have done everything they could to not talk about ignoring impeachment.
The DNC wants the White House so badly they are refusing to start impeachment hearings since winning in 2006.
Are any of them surprised Edwards, who was complicit with the lies of the Kerry campaign lied to us even before the start of this process?
Who are they kidding?

Obama can use this as an prime example of the kind of thorough change we need!!!

Obama can use this as a reason to remind America of all the lies McCain has been telling us.

John Edwards, what were you thinking?
Do I feel betrayed by you?
I feel betrayed by the entire Democratic Leadership...which is why I am now officially registered as "non affiliated".
Both apples (major parties) are too rotten to pick.

I will vote for Obama, and not feel too betrayed when he flip flops as soon as he gets in.

We are abundantly aware of who makes policy in this country and who gets the benefits of the laws and who can must obey the laws and who can get away with anything they want!

Hint: It's not the general public.
In fact, if we cause too much problem nowadays, we are put on a "watch list".

When will we be required to start signing off with Sig Heil?
Obama, free us from these chains of "business as usual" (even today, I heard McCain say lobbying hasn't harmed our country!!! OMG, can he get any worse? Unequivocally, YES)

Edwards failed himself. The Democratic votes (I was one til after the primary), chose the right leader. Democracy does work. We need to use this to move the conversation about the facts about McCain, and even the DC failed leadership.

Americans are hungry to re-establish a country in which the laws are followed, one in which the constitution is honored, one in which our elected officials will do the difficult thing and protect us from the enemies from within (they are a plenty), one in which our media holds itself to a standard of objectivism without corporate interests.

When John Conyers held a meeting on the Bush Administration and Presidential Authority instead of impeachment hearings, why are we surprised to find outa presidential contender lied to the American people about sex? Who are we kidding?

Why do we always allow the Republicans to frame the conversation? We know why.
They run the show, and buy off the right Democrats, so that no matter what, our constitution is ignored and big business controls everything, including what we get to know about issues.

More humiliating to be an American as each day passes.
WE NEED OBAMA MORE THAN EVER NOW.

Re: "More humiliating to be

Re:
"More humiliating to be an American as each day passes.
WE NEED OBAMA MORE THAN EVER NOW."

I totally agree. When McSame came out with his celebrity ad, it pissed me off. He's making it out like we're all attracted only to Obama. I'd wager that part of the reason why he gets such huge crowds is that people are sick of being embarrassed by their president and their government. When I'm in Germany visiting family I want to be able to see a newspaper and go, "Yeah...that's MY president." Not shake my head in shame and think, "THAT's my president?!?"

Edwards and other comments

I kept waiting for an explanation about why Edwards visited for five hours into the early morning. You didn't even bring it up. That was a poor and repetitive discussion.

After his nightline interview, I'm so done with him. It was disingenuous and he came off slimy. Even the words he used to characterize Elizabeth as a "fine" and "sexy" woman didn't seem genuine. I'm so sorry for her. I think perhaps he's a creation of hers. if she runs, I'll vote for her. He and his bimbo can retired to their several mansions and chase each other around the bedroom for all of me.

And David, yesterday you had Arianna on. Why didn't you let her finish her comments? You have a problem with interrupting people and it is annoying. If you listen to the last five minutes, you'll hear yourself cut her off and then spend an inordinate amount of time sayng good bye. Get over yourself!

I have occasionally turned you off when filling in for Rachel. You know your stuff so quit trying so hard to prove it. Let your guests have the floor.

The John Edwards "Affair"

Give it a break lay off this non news story. I really do enjoy your commentary BUT on this subject Ithink you are wasting your time and everybody else's. Let talk about the rape of the American economy by the current administration, the need to be sure a democratic president is eleceted. Why ? So we can restore the rule of law to this nation, the attorney general annouced today that the people who took part in the hiring of lawyers for the justice department in violation civil rules will not be prosecuted for their misdeeds. Now that is sometihing worth talking about! So a guy cheats on his wife, BFD! Shows poor judgement yes, but does not mean that he would have been any less a president. If I need to know about this tripe I will check out Jerry Springer.

Re: Bush being "smart" enough to not comment

David,

I listen to the podcast off and on throughout the week between listening to Rachel's daily show so I'm just now getting to the end of this show. One day I'll try to listen to the show live and call in.

When you were saying that politicians need to be able to push back and say they aren't going to address the inappropriate questions and how Bush was "smart" enough to do it, it got me to thinking. Do you think Bush may have been better able to do that kind of push back since he is "born again?" I'm a non-believer like you, so I might be wrong in my understanding, but don't "born again" evangelicals claim that anything they did before being "born again" can't be held against them or something? Would a non-"born again" politician have more difficulty in making that kind claim to not discuss inappropriate issues?

I really enjoyed your interview with Jared Polis, the first openly-gay person to win a congressional primary. I look forward to the day an openly-atheistic person can do the same.

Minnesota hopes for House sweep

David,

If you're continuing the topic of congressional races, and interesting one is in Minnesota, where the DFL (Democratic Farmer Labor Party) has an outside chance of sweeping the congressional delegation. Besides Franken having a chance to win the Senate race, all three GOP House seats are vulnerable, whereas four of five DFL seats are safe and the other is starting to look that way. One of the GOP seats is one of the most closely watched contests and possibly the most expensive in the country, between Ashwin Madia for the DFL (http://www.actblue.com/contribute/entity/18539) and Erik Paulsen for the Republicans. The incumbent is retiring and the race is a tossup. One of the others is Michelle Bachmann, and the challenger hoping to end Minnesota's humiliation is Elwyn Tinklenberg (http://www.actblue.com/contribute/entity/18660). We also have a good candidate, Steve Sarvi (http://www.actblue.com/contribute/entity/18566), challenging incumbent John Kline.
